While back home for their first nationwide tour in over three years, Australian psychedelic pop band Tame Impala will jump the ditch for shows in Auckland and Wellington.

Tame Impala began as the bedroom recording project of frontman and jack of all trades Kevin Parker, who writes, records, performs, and produces all of the group’s material. Rather than attempting a solo recreation, Parker enlists longtime friends Jay Watson, Dominic Simper, Cam Avery and Julien Barbagallo in live scenarios. This year the five-piece have ticked off headline slots at Coachella and Governor’s Ball to support their third offering, and one of the most anticipated albums of 2015, Currents.

The album sees a bold new progression for Parker, who pulled the fader down on his trademark guitar in exchange for layers of synthesisers and breathy harmonies. The shift to a more dance-orientated sound impressed critics, Spin labelling it “the purest — and most complex — distillation of everything that makes the band such a nearly physical pleasure to listen to.”

Having previously performed at Laneway and Rhythm and Vines festivals, Tame Impala's November dates will be their first ever headline shows in New Zealand. They will be joined by Silicon, the futuristic electronica project of Kody Nielson.
