The Grand Gelinaz Shuffle
A worldwide food performance where chefs stay at home and swap recipes for one day.
Overview
Want to join the 'most massive dinner on earth'? Well you've come to the right place. The Grand Gelinaz Shuffle is a worldwide food performance where chefs stay at home and swap recipes for one day.
Let's break it down: 38 countries, 138 restaurants, 148 chefs, 700 hours of live cooking, 2200 streamed recipes from 17 time zones. With the likes of Rene Redzepi, David Thompson, Anna Ros, Sean Brock and Clare Smyth participating, guests won't know the chef behind the recipes until the big reveal at the end of the night.
Wellington will be represented by Monique Fiso, who's made a name for herself both locally and globally in the cooking space. She spent seven years working in New York at The Musket Room, PUBLIC and Avoce, before returning home to New Zealand in 2016. From there she hosted events under the name Hiakai, which means hungry in Māori, that shared food and insights into Māori culinary culture. She then went on to open her first restaurant under the same name in 2018, where she continues to share traditional Māori cooking techniques and ingredients with a modern twist.
Auckland is also taking part in the global event, with The Sugar Club and Peter Gordon set to serve up creative dishes in a degustation menu, with wine tastings also available. With a particular focus on fusion food, Gordon has become known for building up a legacy in food in both London and Auckland. He's published a number of books and won awards for his restaurants, including Auckland's The Sugar Club. He's best known for combining fresh ingredients in unique new ways without skimping on the overall taste experience.
You can grab a ticket to the worldwide communal event at either Hiakai or The Sugar Club. On December 3 you'll rock up to the restaurant and partake in a set menu of eight dishes designed by Fiso or Gordon and their teams.
