Overview

Everyone knows the Greek myth of the Trojan Horse and how it spelt the end of the war between the Trojans and the Greeks but do you know the Shakespearean back story of Troilus and Cressida?

It is the seventh year of the Trojan War, a Trojan prince named Troilus has fallen in love with Cressida, the daughter of a Trojan priest who has defected to the Greek side. Troilus finds an ally in Cressida's uncle Pandarus who helps bring them together, but their plans are soon thwarted by her treacherous father. Meanwhile a war is waging and the challenge is laid down for the legend of Achilles and Hector to run its course...

In this very special adaptation of the Shakespearean tragedy, the entire production will be spoken in te reo Maori and set in pre-colonial days. Following the three day performance, the cast, including veteran actor Rawene Paratene, will be flying over to London to perform at the world famous Globe Theatre as part of the multilingual Globe to Globe festival.

So come experience the first te reo Maori version of the play, which encompasses waiata, kapa haka and taonga puoro. Of course to appreciate every nuance, a decent understanding of te reo would be a great advantage but for those that don't speak the language, a scene by scene synopsis in English will be available.  Based on reviews from the Wellington production, I'd say this is going to be spectacular and visual enough to entertain everyone.
