Overview

Executed properly, the craft of storytelling can be one of the best and rewarding forms of entertainment. Held at The Basement Theatre every month, The Watercooler is a platform for speakers to demonstrate the discipline, telling real and fictionalised stories around a different theme in front of a live audience.

Inspired by many well-known storytelling events and podcasts held worldwide, such as The Moth or This American Life, organiser Sarah Finnigan-Walsh wanted to bring this event to Auckland to give writers and anecdotists from all backgrounds the chance to share their tales.

This month's theme is Too Much Information (TMI). The panel of guest speakers includes: Auckland-based actor, writer, visual artist and part-time kindergarten teacher Ash Jones; Jamie Bowen who has performed his uplifting, Ted-talk style stand-up comedy from Adelaide to the Edinburgh Fringe, and freelance journalist, former law writer, tap dancer and lover of baked goods Sasha Borensenko.

Led by comedian and improviser, Alice Snedden, the trio will share their stories of knowing too much, too little, revealing too much, wishing they knew more, or taking it in the traditional TMI direction with super, super personal stories.
