Overview
Cats have long been the nonchalant rulers of YouTube, but their perpetual frenemy dogs might just have them beat, with a whole festival dedicated to everyone's best friend.
After a sell-out inaugural season in 2017, the Top Dog Film Festival is touring New Zealand throughout August and September. This independent short film festival celebrates the unique and layered bond between human and hound over two hours and eight short films from around the world.
Dog Man tells the tail of Dick Russell, a trainer who has coached some 30,000 dogs; Adoption Pending follows the story of George, a two-year-old staffie cross on his path to find his forever home; To the Pets captures the tenacity and generosity of spirit found in disabled and aging pets, while Well Groomed is a tongue-in-cheek look into the elaborate world of competitive creative dog grooming.
It doesn't matter whether you're into doggos or puppers, floofs or loafs, thicc bois or long bois, the Top Dog Film Festival will make you laugh, cry, and have a hecking good time. With tickets flying out the door, Aucklanders will be able to check out the encore matinee screening at Academy Cinemas on Sunday, 16 September. Tickets are $26 for an adult and $16 for a child. It will also be heading to Christchurch, Dunedin, Wellington and Hamilton. Tickets are available here.
You'd be borking mad to miss it.
