Vernon God Little

A satirical dissection of the US media first adapted for the stage a decade ago, but relevant as ever.

Overview

It seems The Actors' Program and Last Tapes Theatre Company could not have chosen a more apt piece of theatre to bring to the stage this November. Their production of Vernon God Little is a ridiculously well-timed examination of our grim fascination with America, and the spectacle of the media.

Director Leon Wadham helms The Actors' Program graduating class for 2016 in what he describes as "South Park meets Bowling For Columbine". This arresting black comedy holds a mirror up to our current world – one punctuated by American gun violence and an idolization of celebrity and reality TV.

Based on DBC Pierre's Booker Prize-winning novel, Vernon God Little was first adapted for the stage by British playwright Tanya Ronder almost ten years ago. But in light of recent political events, the hysterical – in both senses of the word – events that unfold onstage seem more relevant than ever.

The combination of a fresh-faced troupe of talent, Last Tapes' esteemed producing duo Robin Kelly and Cherie Moore, and a highly relevant and entertainingly presented subject matter makes this play a must-see for the year that has been 2016.
