Overview

Do you fancy yourself a bit of a meat lover? Then you're going to want to put one (or all three) of Jervois Steak House's Wagyu Evening Series in your calendar.

Every year, the steak-focused fine-dining restaurant — which has both an Auckland and a Queenstown venue — partners with vineyards around the country for three special events. The focus: championing two of the most important food groups, aka meat and wine. In 2023, Jervois will be collaborating with Church Road, Te Kairanga and Martinborough Vineyard, with Church Road up first on Wednesday, September 27.

Located in Napier, among the famed wine region of Hawke's Bay, Church Road has become known for its TOM series. The upmarket vino range, which is priced at around $200, is an ode to Tom McDonald — who first came on the Church Road scene as a 14-year-old from Scotland in 1921 and was running the place five years later.

Folks who attend this Church Road Wagyu Evening Series can try TOM by the glass, or take a bottle home at a special price. For one night only, the winery will be serving the 2023 Church Road Prestige Collection, as expertly matched to the wagyu-heavy meal. Diners can expect wagyu beef tartare, a beef fat crumpet, wagyu scotch and an adventurous dessert of bone marrow crème brûlée.

If you can't make the Church Road event, you still have two more chances to indulge in a wagyu evening. 2023's second event takes place on Tuesday, October 31 in collaboration with Te Kairanga winery, and the final event on Tuesday, November 21 will see Jervois Steak House partner with Martinborough Vineyard.
