Overview

Fresh and cutting-edge, the Wallace Art Awards are an annual salute to the new talent in New Zealand art. Established 22 years ago by Sir James Wallace, the Wallace Art Awards are the longest running of their kind and some of the most prestigious. Winners will be announced at the beginning of next month and an exhibition of finalists' work will be on display at the Pah Homestead from September 3.

The diverse range of quality work is always worth a look as the competition attracts the best from around the country, both emerging and mid-career. With prizes totalling more than $190,00o it's not hard to see why. This year's judges are Warwick Brown, Rhana Devenport, Peter Panyoczki, Robin Woodward and Terry Stringer.

The Wallace Arts Trust does amazing things in the way of supporting, promoting and exposing New Zealand contemporary art and artists. The trust is also responsible for the Wallace Arts Centre established at the historic Pah Homestead. You can peruse their collection of over 5,000 artworks online or see an exhibition of past Wallace Art Awards winners in the virtual gallery.
