Overview
What does it mean to be a New Zealander? That's exactly the question Kate McGill seeks to answer in her new investigative work: Weave.
In a similar format to her lauded work, Munted — real experiences from the Christchurch earthquakes— Weave will see writer and director Kate McGill tackle verbatim theatre. The solo performance will see McGill lace together 20 true stories word for word from people she has met across the country. From transcribed interviews, she will take on and mutate between characters like the bubbly Manawatu nurse, the first generation Kiwi musician, and the stoic South Island farmer.
Playing at the Basement Theatre from April 4-15, Weave promises an entertaining and thought-provoking investigation of the nation's characters. It's theatre for those who want to know the story of their neighbour, boss, or woman of the night.
