Weyes Blood

A no man's land of folk and noise.

Overview

It seems that folk singers are the mass majority of underrated singers that tour our shores. Regardless, Auckland will soon be hosting a folk singer of such, but unlike any folk music you've heard before.

Weyes Blood immerses herself in a no man's land of folk and noise, trying with vigor not to fall into a droned out puddle of sound. California born, Pennsylvania raised and Brooklyn bound, Blood originally self-produced her music, though most recently connected with influential indie label Mexican Summer for the release of her album Front Row Seat To Earth. The album is described as capturing the '70s singer-songwriter aesthetic uncannily, with lyrics that are downright and hauntingly beautiful.

Weyes Blood will give us a peek into her world of hazy horns, space electronics, acoustic guitar, piano and diving drums this summer at two Auckland events. First, as a part of Auckland Live's Summer in the Square series and then at a slightly more exclusive event at Whammy Bar. The latter will be performed with Circuit Des Yeux — an alternative singer songwriter with alt-country, experimental folk and pop vibes.
