Zach Braff plays Aidan Bloom, a struggling actor, father and husband in the comedy-drama Wish I Was Here. Aidan's 35 and still trying to find his purpose in life. Meanwhile he and wife Sarah, played by Kate Hudson, are barely getting by financially on the salary she earns from her monotonous data entry job.

Aidan spends his time fantasising about becoming the futuristic Space-Knight he’d always dreamed he’d be as a kid. When his dying father can no longer afford to pay for his two kids' private education, Aidan reluctantly decides to give homeschooling a go. By teaching them about life his own way, Aidan gradually discovers what he's been looking for.

As well as playing the lead role Braff directs and co-wrote the script with his brother Adam. Getting his fans to finance the film via the crowdfunding website Kickstarter was a controversial move but ultimately one that paid off. Wish I Was Here is a sincere and funny follow up to Braff's hugely popular directorial debut The Garden State.
