World Martini Day
To celebrate, Ponsonby’s Longroom will have the cocktail flowing in all its variations from 7pm.
Overview
Over its long tenure as a cocktail, the Martini has picked up a whole lot of celebrity endorsements. We all know about the James Bond shaken and stirred scenario, but it also managed to make fans out of Queen Elizabeth II and Winston Churchill, who happens to have a variation named after him (a straight glass of gin).
The beverage is traditionally made up of six parts gin and one part vermouth, and garnished with an olive or a lemon twist. Nowadays people are more inclined to order something along the lines of: an appletini, chocolate martini or espresso martini; which are only really related for using the same style of triangular glass.
Either way, Friday 19 June marks World Martini Day. To celebrate, Ponsonby’s Longroom will have the cocktail flowing in all its variations from 7pm. The usual programme of weekend antics will follow into the early hours of the morning.
