Overview
One year after its multimillion-dollar facelift and the Auckland Fish Market has added another seafood-focused eatery to the mix, joining the eight diverse eateries and courtyard bar already positioned at the waterfront marketplace.
Lobster & Tap is a promising new opening completely dedicated to the delicacy of Canadian wild caught lobster in a buttered bun. At the bright red shack diners can take their pick from chopped lobster meat paired with New England mayonnaise and herbs and spices on a chilled toasted bun, or go the full nine yards with lobster doused in clarified butter, lemon and chives on a hot buttered toasted bun. Both can be enjoyed solo or paired with fries or crisps, coleslaw and pickle as a combo.
Those sailing into the new year without the joy of bread have the option of a chilled lobster salad with spicy lemon dressing, cos lettuce, avocado and radish, or a fishy take on the classic Kiwi dip, only starring chopped lobster and served with Proper crisps. And if sweet-fleshed crustaceans aren't your first choice, then beer battered oyster po boys await — the crispy addition comes served with shredded iceberg, pickled jalapeños and shack sauce.
Given the Lobster & Tap title, diners can also expect to wash down their catch with a freshly poured cold one or rosé.
Lobster & Tap is open now at Auckland Fish Market, 22-32 Jellicoe Street, Auckland CBD.
