Overview
Great news for the 130,000-odd noodle lovers that descended on the Night Noodle Markets last December — the hawker-style food gathering is set to make another appearance in Auckland. This year's outdoor noodle season will once again be held across ten nights (23 November - 2 December) at Victoria Park.
While the Night Noodle Markets started in Australia 20 years ago, the format only made its way across the Tasman in 2016. Courtesy of media company, Stuff, the event is now hosted in Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington.
The event is a pop-up market celebrating the thin squiggly cuisine of Asia, though attendees can also expect to pick up reliable favourites like dumplings, fresh curry and barbecued meats. Last year's event also saw an appearance from cult Australian ice creamery Gelato Messina who served deep-fried banana and coconut gelato balls. Applications for stallholders for the 2018 season are currently open.
Sustainability is a key focus for organisers. Last year's Auckland event diverted 79.5 percent of waste from the landfill by using Innocent Packaging and Globelet resuable cups. For $3, festival-goers can purchase a cup to use throughout the event, and when they are done with it, they can return it for a $1 deposit or keep it for later use.
Entry is totally free and dishes range from $5-15. The event is also cashless so you'll only be able to pay with credit card or Eftpos.
The Auckland Night Noodle Markets will take place at Victoria Park from Friday, 23 November to Sunday, 2 December, 2018.
