If you haven't gotten into Britomart for an unlimited dumpling lunch at Xuxu yet, you're going to want to send your friends an e-cal invite for this week. The beloved dumpling bar has announced it is sadly shutting its doors at the end of this month — but says the closure may not be permanent.

In an Instagram post declaring "see you later", the owners announced they are closing at the end of February, but hope to reopen in six months time.

"Please come and say goodbye at Xuxu with dumplings and a tipple before we close," the post read, before alluding to recent lockdowns and alert level changes being the reason for the closure.

"Our industry is suffering and we need your support. We are all vaxxed, boosted, masked, sanitised and socially distancing.

"Restaurants are safe places to be… we hope to see you soon."

The dumpling restaurant is owned owned by Comensa, the team behind sister eateries Ghost Street and Cafe Hanoi. A fourth restaurant owned by the group, Saan in Ponsonby, is also currently closed.

Xuxu will continue to run its $30 all-you-can-eat lunches on every Saturday for the rest of the month and even announced on social media it had added a new date on Sunday, February 20. Hurry in to give the team your support before it closes the best way you can — eating your fill of delicious dumplings.

Xuxu's last day of operation before a six month closure will be February 28. It can be found on the corner of Galway Street and Commerce Street in Britomart, Auckland, and is open Thursday - Saturday, 5pm until late.
