Overview
After handing out 1.2 million lunches to deserving school children, 'buy one, give one' initiative Eat My Lunch has announced it is opening its first physical store in Auckland.
The social enterprise was founded by Lisa King and celebrated chef Michael Meredith in 2015 with an aim of reducing child poverty in New Zealand — one in four kids (about 25,000) currently live in poverty.
The first Eat My Lunch store will land on Customs Street in Britomart in June. Designed by Cheshire Architects, it will be a small 'grab and go' store where customers will be able to buy fresh salads, sandwiches, healthy snacks, drinks and coffee. It aims to reach the impulse lunch market, and following both the Eat My Lunch and Eat My Dinner models, every meal bought at the store will also give a lunch to a hungry child.
Eat My Lunch is currently looking for investors via a PledgeMe equity crowdfunding campaign to fund the company's $2 million expansion. The stores are one of the main initiatives the campaign will support. The company is offering shares at $1 per share at a minimum investment of 500 shares. For every $500 you invest, Eat My Lunch will give five lunches to kids in need.
