Cazador Has Opened a Delicatessen Slinging Wild Game Pies, Charcuterie and Cheese
You'll find it in the restaurant's former private dining room.
Balmoral wild game restaurant Cazador used the nationwide lockdown to serve spit-roasted venison kebabs and goat burgers and preview a menu of charcuterie hampers. With in-restaurant dining restrictions now loosened under the current Alert Level, the family-owned eatery has officially cut the ribbon on its walk-in delicatessen.
The deli can be found next door to the 40-seater in the former private dining room. Cazador's second generation custodians, Rebecca Smidt and Dariush Lolaiy, say the idea behind the space is to offer all the things they love to eat with friends when they're not in the restaurant.
Following the wild game stylings of Cazador, visitors will find a range of house-cured charcuterie to take away — including bacon, ham, parfait, salami and pastrami. From there, you can flesh out your antipasti spread with local specialty cheeses, spreads and condiments like babaganoush, dukkah and oils.
The counter is dotted with fresh pastries, with the Cazador kitchen pumping out fresh pies daily. Rebecca says the stable is the wagyu mince, cheese and béchamel pie. A roster of game pies can also be expected. On top of that you'll find cakes, biscuits (today's special is bourbon and chocolate), plus a selection of items from the restaurant's favourite local producers — Eighthirty organic blend coffee, La Voie Francais bread, Vaniye Patisserie pastries and Foundry Chocolate.
The Cazador Delicatessen is open now at 854 Dominion Road. The opening hours are Monday to Saturday, 8am–5pm. In its opening week the deli will be open 9am–3pm.
