Overview

Kingsland is officially home to a new craft beer brewery. Urbanaut Brewing Co. is the brainchild of friends Thomas Rowe, Simon Watson and Bruce Turner, who left his job with London's Meantime Brewing Company to set up the outfit.

For the three lads from the Rangitikei, the opening is based around the excitement and exploration that comes with visiting a new city, drinking new beer. Each Urbanaut beer has been designed to celebrate the city that inspired its creation — embodying the culture, the people and the atmosphere. Urbanaut will initially launch five beers under the label, including the flagship Kingsland Pilsner, Brixton Pale Ale, Shimokita Lager, Gastown Red IPA and Williamsburg IPA. The brewery will extend its range with seasonal offerings.

As well as serving as a production brewery, the Kingsland site has an onsite tasting room, off-licence store and offers brewery tours for those interested at looking behind the scenes. The space also boasts an area in the main brewery which will be used for events.

This weekend is the first chance for the public to have a look, and more importantly, taste the beers. To mark the occasion, Urbanaut's five beers will be poured on tap, food truck Dixie Barbecue will be serving low 'n' slow barbecue and live music will ring through the space from 5pm. The Sunday event will be a more chilled and family-friendly affair with some more of that barbecue to soothe Saturday's wounds.
