Overview
With Auckland's blossoming food scene it's not unusual to liken your dinner to a work of art. At streetARTdego that statement is a given; the event pairs five of the city's best street food vendors with five renowned artists for a curated mashup of art and food. Courtesy of Gather and Hunt and Heart of the City, the event returns for the fifth time this year as part of immersive and after-hours exhibition, Late Night Art.
Held across Khartoum Place and the Auckland Art Gallery, this year's offering will see installation based artist Tiffany Singh work alongside Temaki Truck to create an installation and food offering inspired by concepts of reciprocity and generosity; Korean-Mexican food truck Coreano will work with visual artist Kerry Ann Lee on a dish inspired by her current artist residency in Mexico, taking cues from songs and images of revolution; Kraken Crumpets and performance artist Mark Harvey will create an edible, performative movement inspired by Harvey's work Turquoisation: For the coming storm; mother-daughter duo The Pie Piper will collaborate with Walters Prize 2016 nominee Nathan Pohio on a food offering inspired by his photographic work, Raise the anchor, unfurl the sails, set course to the centre of an ever setting sun!; while the final collaboration will unfold in the Auckland Art Gallery atrium.
The first-come first-served event will see electronic artist Pacific Heights perform a free show while contemporary Chinese street food specialists Judge Bao will serve a dish inspired by the artist's 2016 album, The Stillness. All dishes will be available for purchase.
The Auckland Art Gallery will also play host to the ArtDego Pop-Up Bar. The gallery's Walters Prize Exhibition will be open to the public free of charge from 5pm-9pm.
streetARTdego takes place from 5-9pm on Wednesday 13 October across Khartoum Place and the Auckland Art Gallery.
