Some find enlightenment by sinking an ice cool beer. Others prefer the kind of mindfulness that comes with contorting limbs to boiling point and saluting the sun. Regardless, the international phenomenon of drinking beer while practising yoga has arrived in New Zealand.

There's no clear-cut answer as to how and where beer yoga began; some speculate that it was born at desert rave Burning Man, while plenty of others praise a group of Berlin hipsters.

From Wednesday 22 March and every week thereafter until April 26, Beer Yoga will take place at new Takapuna beer house Master & Apprentice. Qualified yoga instructor Chelsea Perkins will lead the classes, guiding attendees through slow flow yoga poses whilst swigging a beer. Those lucky enough to sign up for the first session will be treated to the combo of zen and buzz for free. Further classes will be available at the very reasonable price of $10 including a bottle of beer.

Spaces are limited and bookings are essential. Email contact [email protected] for more information.
