Overview
In its short lifespan, Happy Boy has become a landmark of Manukau Road. The eatery from the owners behind northern Thai restaurant Kiss Kiss sticks out like a signal flare in the Royal Oak shops — the neons are visible from a few hundred metres down the road, flagging down burger lovers and possibly a few aircraft in the process.
The idea for the opening was set alight after Jasper and Ludo Maignot and business partner Celeste Thornley moved into Onehunga, spotted the building for lease, and noticed that the dining scene in the area was missing something: "an eatery that was suitable for the whole family, and a meal that wouldn't break the bank."
The result is a burger joint with an Asian tilt; all five burgers on the menu are led by steamed buns (oversized Chinese bao) that are soft, light, slightly chewy, like biting into a perfect marshmallow.
You've probably already indulged in a burger or two in the eatery's tropical courtyard. Now's your chance to eat every single thing off the menu as Happy Boy gives away $1000 worth of burgers to one extremely lucky and soon-to-be happy person.
To enter, all you have to do is like Happy Boy on Facebook and Instagram and tag the friend you'd like to bring along for the ultimate feast. Announced on December 15, 2017, the winner will be able to pick up a beef with cheese, katsu chicken, gouchuan pork belly and whatever else the hell they want — it's $1000.
