From its free 30-minute parking, to the aubergine baos at Blue Breeze Inn, potato skins at Burger Burger and the delicious cocktails at Bedford, Ponsonby Central already has a lot going for it. But the chic precinct continues to outdo itself with a new addition to its restaurant family, Yugo Kitchen.

Promising to be a bit of a meat eaters' mecca, Yugo Kitchen is both a restaurant and Serbian meat room, with hanging salami, ham and prosciutto serving as both the decor and lunch. Before setting up shop in Ponsonby, Yugo Kitchen were regulars at Parnell's La Cigale markets with their Salami by Mirkov stall, where they sold enough hot dogs to begin thinking that maybe a permanent shop was a good idea. As of last Friday, that idea has now become a reality in the space formerly occupied by Neat Meat.

The team uses an age-old Serbian dry-curing method to develop textures and depth of flavours in their meat. On the menu are classic, comforting combinations which make said meat the star of the dish — like their chorizo and egg baguette ($13), sausages and potato salad ($13) and the Yugo Classic sandwich which arrives bursting at the seams with four kinds of cured meats ($15). All menu items can be ordered to enjoy in-store at one of tables or takeaway.

Yugo Kitchen is a refreshingly homely addition to Ponsonby. Meander in to support your new local while it's still finding its roots in its new neighbourhood.

Find Yugo Kitchen inside Ponsonby Central at 4 Brown Street, Ponsonby. It's open from 8am till 6pm, seven days.
