Overview

Great news for the 200,000-odd noodle lovers that descended on the Night Noodle Markets last November— the hawker-style food gathering is set to make another appearance in Auckland. This time, at one of the most popular events on the cultural calendar, the Auckland Lantern Festival.

Now in its 18th year, the Auckland Lantern Festival is New Zealand's biggest Chinese cultural festival, celebrating the best of traditional and contemporary Chinese culture, via 800 illuminated lanterns, live entertainment, martial arts, an immense fireworks display and food. This year's event will be held at Auckland Domain from February 9 - 12.

The Night Noodle Markets will add to the already generous stretch of food vendors. It will be located in the previously inaccessible Kari St Commons in the Domain, offering a refined range of dishes from over 15 food vendors. Expect multiple variations of mouth-watering noodle dishes as well as reliable favourites from the far east.

The Night Noodle Markets first started in Australia 18 years ago, and only made its way across the pond last year, with events in Queenstown, Christchurch and Wellington attracting upwards of 250,000 noodle heads.

The 2017 Auckland Lantern Festival and Night Noodle Markets will run from 4pm – 10.30pm, Thursday 9 to Sunday 12 February. The event is free and open to all ages.
