Overview

The beating heart of New Plymouth's caffeine scene for the past 20 years, Ozone Coffee, is making its way to Auckland. The company began with three friends roasting out of a small shop in 1998. Now under the ownership of Taranaki hospitality family the Macfarlanes, it services beans and blends to practically every eatery in the provincial surf town, has relationships with suppliers and farmers from South America to Africa, and operates an artisan coffee spot in Shoreditch, London.

As part of Grey Lynn's new The Scrap Yard development — located on a former demolition yard down Westmoreland Street West— the coffee specialists will  open their eatery and roastery this February.

Ozone's first Auckland-based venue will blend a 100-seat eatery with a wholesale roastery.  Behind a wall of glass in the warehouse-style venue will sit a reconditioned coffee roaster framed by a world-class barista training facility and specialist quality control lab.

The eatery will operate from 7am until late with the kitchen promising a sustainable and whole-cycle style of cooking. Dishes like braised wagyu on focaccia, seeded granola with buffalo yoghurt, hand-cut pappardelle, aged hanger steak and green pea risotto star on the all-day menu. One specialty item is Executive Chef Joe O'Connell's three-cheese Italian pancake.

In addition to the fresh coffee selection, the beverage list features cocktails like cold drip negroni, wines and speciality beers.

Ozone Auckland is schedule to open at 18 Westmoreland Street West, Grey Lynn this February.
