The Brewers Room Is Ponsonby's New Craft Beer Freehouse
The new Ponsonby Central venue features 24 taps of the good stuff.
Ponsonby's newest freehouse offers the biggest selection of Kiwi craft beer in the area.
The Brewers Room arrived in the Ponsonby Central precinct last month with 24 taps pouring drops from local breweries like Epic, Garage Project, Behemoth, Liberty, Sawmill, Double Vision, McLeod's and HeyDay.
The Brewers Room owner Rolly Doyle says the new venue could be called "Ponsonby's candy shop for beer," and is confident it will exceed the tally of different beers served at sister establishment, The Brewer's Co-operative, which has poured 1000 varieties over the past four years.
Doyle adds that the tap selection will change on an almost weekly basis and might be one of the few bars in Auckland to receive experimental or limited release beer. "Our allocation may be limited to one or two kegs… so when that beer is gone, that's it." Visitors to the new watering hole will be able to sample different pours via tasting paddles, or go for full pint servings.
Matching the venue's local beer list and rustic decor is a "Kiwi fish and chip menu with a difference." That means a predominantly seafood-led menu featuring everything from green lip mussels in laksa sauce, to oysters three ways, deep-fried anchovies and smoked fish cakes. Elsewhere, the drinking grub continues into a selection of burgers and fries, brisket rolls, pork belly bites and jalapeño poppers.
The Brewers Room opens up onto one of Ponsonby Central's internal alley ways.
