Auckland's restaurants might be closed to dine-in customers under Alert Level 3, but you can still eat like a royal — and without leaving the house.

O'Connell Street French restaurant Le Chef is the latest establishment to jump on the meal kit bandwagon. During lockdown, Ed Le Goff kicked off his next business project, The Foodies, a ghost kitchen and delivery-only restaurant service offering crayfish and gourmet grazing platters for at-home dining. Now, he's introduced the Le Chef Box, offering a proper taste of the motherland. Kicking off this week, the French-themed meal kit service covers the entire weekend — from Friday night dinner to Sunday brunch.

Le Chef's Friday evening charcuterie platter includes a selection of cheese served with a fresh baguette; the Saturday lunch offering is tabbouleh with couscous and mint dressing; and the Saturday night feast brings everything you need to make cheese fondue for two — from emmental, comte and beaufort cheeses to a French baguette for dipping. Sunday morning is reserved for a French brunch experience with a half dozen snails and garlic butter, plus duck terrine, pork rillette and a baguette.

From there you can bump up your order to include extras like blue cheese and mashed potato. No complicated cooking techniques are required; several dishes only need to be heated and Le Chef will provide the recipes and instructions to bring everything together.

Le Chef's Week-End Box cost $169 for two people. The service is delivering this Friday, 21 August. For more information, visit le-chef.co.nz.
