Lacking on the streets of Auckland were the authentic dishes and bold flavours of Sri Lanka. Setting themselves the challenge to fill such a culinary void is St Kevins Arcade's newcomer, Revolver.

The man behind the polished tiling, wooden accents and stained glass windows is Oli Bradford. Drawing from his experience in well-renowned cafe Bestie, situated almost adjacent, Oli has an in-depth understanding of the arcade's workings. He recognises the faces of its regular occupants and knows team members that make up its establishments. Revolver takes the place of sandwich shop Fort Greene which has moved to a larger location along Karangahape Road.

A former Wellingtonian, Oli has been eager for Auckland to pick some cafe culture cues from its sister-city. Showing us exactly how it's done, Revolver opens its doors from 7am right through until 5pm daily.

Offering city-goers specialties common on the streets of Sri Lanka, yet novel here, Oli recommends all his guests to try one of his hoppers. Inspired by his mother's teachings, these fermented pancake-like delicacies are unparalleled to almost all the usual suspects that currently occupy Auckland's brunch scene. Coconut fragrant and bursting with flavour, we recommend turning your attention to the egg hopper and accompanying it with the cashew nut curry.

Elsewhere, there's a breakfast bowl that tips its hat to the pina colada with pineapple, coconut and lime; chana vadai chickpea fritters doused coriander and tamarind yogurt; scrambled tofu and chilli paneer.

What's more, it would seem your caffeine hit has fallen into trusty hands too. With an all-day menu boasting Havana's deluxe blend, Revolver has positioned itself comfortably for any time of day. We recommend matching your brew with a little something from glass cabinet countertop. Here you'll find homemade bliss balls, pick-up and go wraps and fresh salads.

It's apparent Revolver has placed the community at the epicentre of its focus. Playing host to an array of stools and intimate coffee tables, the space essentially speaks for itself and extends a welcoming embrace to all.

Find Revolver in St Kevins Arcade, 183 Karangahape Road.
