Overview

Whether you've come to the capital for a cultured weekend or you're just looking for a little artistic inspiration, look no further than the playfully patterned rooms of the QT in Wellington.

This chain of hotels is known for its eclectic interior, but the Wellington offering may just take the room-service menu's cake. Your eyes will never get bored in this central city gem which has art at every turn — dotting the walls in mini art gallery just past the foyer, or even hanging above your head in the form of a bedhead mural or custom-made wallpaper.

There are three stellar options to eat and drink on site. It's worth noting, the French-inspired Hippopotamus restaurant does an exquisite high tea, with the hotel claiming the interior was inspired by "a French grandma who knows how to drink". You'll believe it when you see it.

Urban hills and harbour views can all be taken in from your room, and if you're bored of the hotel's artistic offerings, Te Papa is just over the road.
