Woodpecker Hut sits on the cliffs just eight minutes from Punakaiki. It's the place to go when you need to turn off and escape — mobile service can be intermittent. The little off-grid timber hut faces north towards the ocean and has stunning views from every window, including the bedroom where you can enjoy sweeping vistas from the comfort of your bed. And while you're not cosied up in bed enjoying those views, sit in the cedar hot tub to enjoy the outlook and thank your lucky stars you get to experience all this beauty. Then once the sun goes down, look up and be amazed at how many stars you can see from a place that has virtually no light pollution.
