Cook Island-style doughnuts whipped up in the heart of Kingsland.

Overview

The ladies of Doe create fresh doughnuts filled with heart and soul. The idea of creating Cook Island-style doughnuts first came to them whilst flatting in a dingy place in Bondi, Sydney, and it now operates from a kitchen in Kingsland.

The company describes itself as being an edible collaboration of identity, with recipes stemming from nostalgic Kiwiana and Pasifika memories. The flavours change regularly but are always inventive and delicious. Recent choices have been the Afghan (chocolate frosting, topped with homemade afghan cookie crumb and walnut praline) and the Pineapple Pie (pineapple custard filling, vanilla bean glaze, topped with cream and freeze-dried pineapple). Are you drooling yet? I haven't tried those flavours (yet) but I can vouch for the Raspberry Cream — a fresh cream and raspberry jam-filled fluffy doughnut with sugar on the outside for the perfect crunch.

You can order your favourite flavours online, in a box of either four, six or nine large doughnuts or 16 mini doughnuts, with pick-up or delivery available from Thursday to Saturday. They deliver to any location within a 14 kilometre radius from the Auckland CBD. Or you can pick up from the bakery directly, which is worth it alone for the delicious dough smells, but also because it's nice to put a face to the creators of such works of scrumptiousness.

Follow on them on Instagram as they do the occasional pop-up in Auckland — most recently at the Hero Sandwich House in Eden Terrace. The plan is to eventually open up their own shop, but for now, it's definitely worth planning ahead to get your favourite flavours of Kiwiana-inspired doughy goodness.
