Overview

Described as a modern family eatery with an Asian twist, Duck Duck Goose is bringing stirring flavours to Rosedale.

It becomes excitingly apparent that Duck Duck Goose is not your standard eatery when the food arrives. The spicy mushroom ragout is elegantly served with poached eggs and enhanced with aromatic flowers that offer oriental flavours and expose the tastebuds to an entirely innovative ragout experience. The potato and kumara hash cake with manuka smoked bacon was simply delicious. The plate is covered by a plastic dome over the top, which holds in the smoke like something straight out of Netflix series, Chef's Table. The use of thinly cut granny smith fries with the rocket adds a layer of freshness as well as complimenting the beetroot relish pleasantly. Both plates were decent portions that will have your appetite not wanting to rest while your stomach gets closer to bursting point.

If smoke and flowers aren't your thing, breakfast classics such as muesli, eggs and French toast are available, not to mention a variety of reasonably priced sides to create or add to your meal.

Barista An Ngyun provides an exceptionally detailed drinks list that boasts a range of smoothies, teas and coffees. Those of you who can taste the difference between a long black and an Americano will be pleased to note that both are available.

Not just a brunch place, Duck Duck Goose also has a variety of options for lunch including sandwiches and a duck curry served with twice cooked fries. The sweet treats created by patisserie chef and co-owner Yessy on display look exceptional, including sesame mini cakes, cinnamon doughnuts and brioche.

The style of the café feels practical with polished wood tables, fixed benches and vertical plants climbing through crates on the walls. Although modest in size, the owners have made good use of the area while keeping a cosy atmosphere. A nice touch for those with children is the free colouring-in paper that depicts the café's iconic ducks and geese.

With no lack of cafés in the Rosedale, there is stiff competition for this new bird on the block. However, with such exquisite food and a variety of flavours Duck Duck Goose is sending the right smoke signals. Duck in and take a gander.
