Greenleaf Organics Cafe - CLOSED

Overview

In the depths of the industrial part of New North Road lies Greenleaf Organics. It began as a small home and work organic smoothie business but has quickly grown into something much more substantial.

Many cafes these days seem to go for the industrial look because of its design appeal, Greenleaf on the other hand is industrial more out of necessity as the other half of the business creates super wholesome smoothies, that are made, packaged, and sent out on site.

On this occasion though, we were there mainly there to sample the food at the recently opened Greenleaf Organics Cafe. The menu was simple, with an open mind to changing each week with foods that come in and out of season. With a focus on organic food, comes a natural focus on vegetarian and gluten-free dishes.

It was midday Sunday, we ordered a couple of All Press coffees and had a flick through the paper.

Despite a little voice in my head telling me to get something vegetarian, I went with the slow cook of the day ($15), it was delicious perfectly cooked pork with just the right amount of garlic, cumin, and chipotle for flavour, it also came with a pear, apple and cabbage slaw. I was pretty stoked with my selection, the perfect cosy feed for an overcast Sunday. My girlfriend ordered the toasted sandwich ($12), that had cheddar, heirloom tomato and amla curry sauerkraut as fillings. Given my duties as a reviewer, I had a couple of bites of the toasted sandwich. It was pretty average, there seemed to be something slightly amiss with it; maybe putting cabbage in a toasted sandwich just isn't a good idea.

All in all, however, it was a cool spot, reasonably priced, and good for quick and healthy work day lunches and slow and easy Sunday feeds.
