Don't let the size of Grey Lynn's new eatery Honey Bones fool you, the intricate space is just a small portion of what the new breakfast spot has to offer.

Right in the heart of the West Lynn shops, and in the former site of Were Bros and Much Floral,  is a new corner spot that serves up epic dishes to kickstart your mornings. Hugo Baird — the brains behind Crumb — has joined forces with former Odettes chef Reginaldo Richard to transform the small space into a prime hangout.

Whether you're after a morning coffee to-go or a catch-up breakfast with friends, Honey Bones caters for all. Start your day off with the buckwheat porridge served with black doris plum, berries, chia, and coconut milk — it's not only healthy but delicious too. If porridge isn't your thing then treat yourself to the quick butty, a sandwich of pure deliciousness filled with crispy bacon, fried egg, chutney, and aioli — all for just $11.

How do you like your eggs in the morning? Whether that's boiled or fried you're guaranteed to be satisfied as the bistro has a variety of egg-cellent dishes to sink your teeth into. The smashed peas is certainly a favourite, with creamy ricotta, pickled butternut, roasted grapes and a poached egg all served on rye bread, you won't be disappointed. Looking at the menu, you're truly spoilt for choice. I finally opted for the Turkish poached eggs served with yoghurt tahini, mushrooms, harissa oil and crisp sage. Together with the strawberry spring smoothie, it made for the perfect brunch.

For those cold winter afternoons, I'd suggest trying the beef cheek croquettes, served with hot and sour eggplant, turmeric sauce, and an egg of your choice. It will certainly warm you up in a jiffy. The ricotta pancakes, topped with poached fruits, yoghurt and date syrup and hazelnut crumble certainly won't let your sweet tooth down. For sweet and salty, add bacon to this breakfast extravaganza.

Whether you want a chilled Saturday brunch or a sarnie to go, Honey Bones will take care of your every need, but be sure to get in there nice and early to bag yourself a seat as those relaxed weekend mornings fill up fast.
