Overview
If you're doing a case study on Auckland's top fried chicken, then back up the truck and check out Eatery at Eastridge's newest member, Pickle Pickle.
Pickle Pickle is nestled among a stellar lineup of restaurants in the relatively new dining precinct, up on the hill in Mission Bay. This humble eatery is a guaranteed crowd pleaser. It caters for a range of dietary requirements, from vegan to gluten and dairy-free. Whether you're a 'keep the hot sauce coming', or a 'black pepper is spicy enough thanks' type of person, Pickle Pickle has the perfect option for you. The main dishes can be made original, hot or f****** hot'.
We launched in headfirst with the restaurant's namesake dish: pickles. Deep-fried juicy rounds slathered in sriracha mayo ($7). These little guys need to be the next hot chips, ordered as a side with everything. Next up, the vegan cauliflower and eggplant fritters ($12). They are onion baji-esque and have quite the kick. This small plate gets bonus points for being delicious, as well as gluten and dairy-free.
On to the lifeblood: deep-fried bird. The classic fried chicken sammie ($14) is value for money and has the perfect combination of pickles, pickles and more pickles. These come in the form of aioli, slaw and straight up pickle. To balance it all out we opted for the avocado salad ($12). When coupled with another side, maybe the Bombay chicken sliders ($13), it would be the perfect main meal.
Pickle Pickle is a great spot to go with your family, on a casual third date, or with a group of mates. The precinct has indoor and outdoor seating. Grab a spot in the sunshine and sip on an Aperol spritz ($14) or a glass of Mama's 'Love' kombucha ($7). There is no dessert on the menu, but don't stress, there's plenty of choice in the area to satisfy your sweet tooth.
No need to iron a shirt, the vibe here is pretty chilled out. Consider it as classy cheap eats and service with a smile. Good news, it's also on Uber Eats. Pickle Pickle will not disappoint.
