Roots is a small restaurant housed in a quaint two-storeyed building in Lyttelton, the port suburb half an hour from the centre of Christchurch. Opened in 2012, owners Giulia and Christy Sturla had a sound philosophy right from the start: serve good food using fresh, seasonal, organic ingredients. That might sound like a lot of other places, but Roots is not like other places. Much of the restaurant's produce is harvested from it own urban garden or sourced from farmers' markets and organic specialists. This is then supplemented with ingredients foraged from Banks Peninsula to create surprising, delicious dishes. Choose from the five-course, eight-course or 13-course degustation menus with the possibility of matched wines.
