Overview

Another authentic Chinese restaurant on Dominion Road? What a surprise! Before you walk on by we suggest you pop in to San Bao for some grade A Szechuan cuisine.

You'll be handed a couple of menus, one of which is only in Chinese, but thankfully the other is in English too and boasts a wide range of dishes from the 'unique' to the unanimously tasty.

If you're new to San Bao ordering is a little like a game of roulette. You might strike gold, or you could end up with something a little bizarre ('Dance Egg Tofu' anyone?). By all means roll the dice but if you want to guarantee a delicious feed we recommend the following as a safe bet – the pancakes. These were more like crispy little roti than a pancake, but whatever you call them they were extremely moreish.

Add to that some of the cornerstones of Szechuan cuisine - chicken and dried chili (Hung Bao Chicken $16.8) and eggplant and pork (eggplant on hot iron panel $16.80) and you've got yourself a jolly good meal. Variety and value for money is what’s on offer here and there are plenty of yummy options to keep you coming back for more.

Its not just the food at San Bao that's commendable, they had the not-intrusive-yet-attentive service thing down pat.
