Overview

Scullery Café, located just off Upper Queen street, is a cafe filled regulars, chit chat banter and the smell of coffee brewing in the air. We sat in the outdoors area and were greeted with a smile hidden behind a thick beard. It was the sort of service that made it clear why so many of the customers around us were regulars.

Scullery's interior layout promotes a less-is-more kind of attitude. Half a dozen white tables, counter seating and several outdoor tables. The open kitchen and reflective tiles give the illusion of a vast open space. The walls are covered with shelves, stacked with a variety of spices, liquor bottles and craftily designed round containers of Three Beans coffee. If that wasn't enough, Scullery Café joined the commercial compost company We Compost, in an effort to be a zero waste café via recycling and minimizing waste.

The brunch menu offers more than the usual eggs-on-toast combination. A personal favourite was  the mushroom, haloumi and smoked garlic toast. The lunch menu offers both vegetarian and gluten-free options, ranging from $16 to $20. To wash it all down, you are welcome to order a beverage from the large range of Three Beans coffee, six barrel soda syrups, smoothies or fresh juice. For those preferring a more "classy" lunch, the drinks menu offers both red and white wines ($10 glass) or tap beer ($8.50 glass).

So feel free to stop by after an afternoon of roaming K Road, chances are that you will be pleasantly surprised.
