The Cube
Popping up in Carnegie for six days, this translucent box will become the setting for a suite of performances, installations and live art experiences.
Overview
The minds behind participatory theatre crew Born in a Taxi are no strangers to thinking outside of the box, known for delivering barrier-smashing, immersive arts experiences that focus on real-time co-creation. Well now, they're diving back into the box, if you like, for their latest creation, The Cube.
Making its home at the Carnegie Community Space from Friday, April 8–Wednesday, April 13, The Cube will act as a giant display case of creativity, hosting a suite of performances, installations and live art experiences.
Passersbys can catch innovative offerings like Cubed — a performance piece by dance-theatre company Alice Will Caroline that reimagines 1997 film Cube — and a spontaneous show fusing comedy, light, dance and theatre, titled Enlighten.
Meanwhile, the premiere of Butterfly House will see you create your own winged critter out of recycled materials, to be released in the butterfly chamber among a cast of performers and puppets. Dance collective L2R are set to share their secrets via a hip hop workshop, before showing off their finest moves in a community dance jam. And you'll even have the chance to catch local street artists creating live works, as The Cube becomes a transparent studio space.
The Cube's entire program is free to experience, though you'll need to register in advance for the workshops and the Butterfly House performances.
