Keshett has been selling rare antique and vintage jewellery in Melbourne since 1979, when Eugene and Paula Keshett opened their first store on the belief that the finest pieces are inherited rather than manufactured. Almost five decades on, the family-owned house has unveiled two reimagined CBD stores — its flagship on Little Collins Street and its boutique inside the historic Block Arcade — both redesigned by Melbourne interior design practice Studio Y. The business is now led by second-generation custodians Dana and Zac Aviv. Following Paula's passing last year, her daughter Dana — a GIA-qualified gemologist who came up through New York's 47th Street diamond district — took over as creative director, and she runs the house alongside her husband, CEO Zac Aviv. Rather than two identical fit-outs, Studio Y gave each store a shared design language that responds to its site. At the Block Arcade, the compact heritage footprint became a kind of contemporary jewellery box, with walnut joinery, bronze detailing and deep forest green, moss and burgundy tones, a large green velvet curtain flanking the winding back staircase and circular consultation tables in place of traditional counters. The flagship, on the corner of Little Collins Street and Balcombe Place, is now arranged across three distinct spaces. Cream travertine floors, French-washed walls and walnut joinery set the palette, while a glass-and-travertine display counter — framed by faceted walnut inspired by the geometry of cut diamonds — sits at the centre over a deep red inlaid rug, and a curtained-off VIP salon with its own mini bar handles private consultations and bespoke appointments. "We wanted to create beautiful spaces where people feel comfortable taking their time, celebrating milestones and choosing pieces that will become part of their own family stories," says Dana Aviv. Inside, you'll find antique and vintage pieces sourced from around the world, alongside exceptional gemstones, contemporary takes on art deco design and bespoke commissions. Keshett's flagship is open now at 323–325 Little Collins Street, Melbourne, from 10am–5pm Monday–Saturday. Its Block Arcade boutique at 282 Collins Street keeps the same hours plus 11am–4pm on Sundays — browse the collection on the Keshett website. Top image: Arianna Leggiero
