Overview

The Chinese eatery and BYO extraordinaire which goes by the moniker of Red Hill is well, very red. You’ve got some accents of black and white for style, but the restaurant’s predominant feature really is just that colour.

While the decor is definitely improved by a few glasses of vino, and the food is what you would expect from a middle-range Chinese restaurant, Red Hill has an inescapable charm which makes it the best BYO restaurant in Wellington.

We suspect it has something to do with its strict adherence to its 8pm onwards karaoke policy - turning a small and well-packed red restaurant into a site of PG-rated licentiousness. Cheerfully tone deaf, patron after patron takes over the role of serenading the 70-strong crowd of people packed into a 20 metres squared room. You can't help but have fun.
