Good times and good climes — Perth has them both, and there's no better place to take advantage of it than in one of the city's many beer gardens.
Want to impress your friends with a sun-drenched beach bar? See live music in a sprawling, renovated pub courtyard, sans sticky carpet? Or just try something new, beyond your stalwart local? Then head to one of the standout spots on this list, which we've rounded up with help from Heineken. Savour a beer in these urban oases — some as old as the city foundations, others new kids on the block.

The Left Bank in North Fremantle has a long history and truly offers one of Perth’s best beer garden experiences. It’s an absolute institution for Perth and Fremantle dwellers alike. The venue’s enviable location right on the banks of the Swan River means unspoilt riverfront views where you can watch the yachts sail by. But location isn’t the only thing in the Left Bank’s favour: its kitchen serves up excellent versions of all the pub classics — burgers, steaks, loaded fries, buttermilk fried chicken — and even extends to cover breakfast. It’s also a prime spot for a Sunday session, with ice-cold beer and plenty of sunshine.

Apart from being Perth’s leading independent rock and roll venue, the Rosemount Hotel boasts a newly renovated beer garden that is one of Perth’s best. Bright, buzzy and contemporary, it offers large communal tables for big groups, an outdoor pool table and live music. The food menu is exactly what you want from a beer garden — pub classics, American comfort food (think southern fried chicken and wings) and an extensive selection of pizzas. The bar serves a great mix of international and local beers on tap as well as much-loved espresso ‘jartinis’.

For the first time in 100 years, the CBD and Northbridge are connected, thanks to the newly finished Perth City Link. So it would be rude not to include the stylish new bar that brings the two together. Located in Kings Square in what used to be a marketplace, Market Grounds is an upmarket, multilevel establishment with an enviable beer garden out front. Blue-and-white rattan seating, greenery and plenty of natural light are what you’ll find when you enter. Grab a seat in the sun and accompany a Heineken 3 with baskets of crispy school prawns, steamed bao and sashimi from the street-food-inspired bar menu.

We’d be remiss not to include a beach bar in our list of best beer gardens in this coastal city. And the best of them all has to be the Cottesloe Hotel. ‘The Cott’ used to be a low-key joint, full of flip-flops and AstroTurf. These days its beer garden, The Beach Club, is a sophisticated space designed for long lunches and catch-ups with friends. The menu is seafood heavy (this close to the ocean, how could it not be?) So, take a seat among the white deck chairs and blue striped umbrellas and enjoy the sea breeze. You might even consider crossing the road for a dip in the ocean after.
Plan your next arvo out — all you need to do is rally the troops, choose a venue and order a round of Heineken 3.
