Overview

With the coast to the west and the lush lakelands to the east, Sligo is perfectly located for adventure lovers and culture vultures alike. Legendary literary figure W.B. Yates spent many a page waxing lyrical about Sligo's poetic landscape.

The Hot Box Sauna in Rosses Point is one of the best places to experience it. Its seaside saunas have views out to the ocean and the nearby mountains, including the arresting, sheer-faced, flat-topped Ben Bulben.

Sligo also lays claim to some of the best surfing on the island of Ireland. If you love challenging surf, head out to Strandhill and Mullaghmore Head to catch a wave.

In town, pubs like Shoot the Crows are perfect for gathering around the fireplace with a stout in hand, while Strandhill People's Market is ideal for a Sunday stroll. The town hosts numerous festivals throughout the year. Be sure to check out the Cairdre Sligo Arts Festival in July.
