Overview
After three years of relative silence, French electronic music duo Daft Punk are set to release the soundtrack to the sci-fi blockbuster film Tron Legacy on December 8.
Daft Punk's entire musical aesthetic is heavily tied up with robot biker helmets, strips of electric light and the feeling of being inside the nerve centre of a vast and cavernous broken computer, which should make them the perfect candidates for mapping a sci-fi soundscape. The film is a sequel to the 1982 movie, Tron, and is set to be released in IMAX 3D, but what's caught the most attention around the world is the music which Daft Punk have written and produced for it.
The Tron: Legacy soundtrack leaked on the internet a few months ago, and people got terribly excited, expecting huge things and perhaps a unique work which could be listened to as an album in its own right, as opposed to what it actually is, which is simply a very good film score. Daft Punk have always placed a strong emphasis on the visual elements of their music; indeed, they actually appear in the film during a nightclub scene dressed as robots.
You can preorder the deluxe edition of the soundtrack, which is officially released next week, and includes a digital download of the album, the Tron: Legacy soundtrack CD, a copy of the 'Derezzed' single, and an exclusive movie-sized glow-in-the-dark poster of Daft Punk, which is only available for purchase from the website.
