Overview

For more than 230 years, Caza das Vella Loreto has been renowned for the finest handmade candles. Opening its doors on July 14, 1789 – the same day the French Revolution kicked off – this family-run business is home to an on-site workshop and a storefront resplendent with exquisitely arched display shelves.

There have been many changes over the years, where once the shop occupied the entire immense facade, complete with an enormous counter, it now takes up a fraction of that. But you can still find the same artistry in the tailored, handmade candles for every occasion and life event.

From utilitarian tapers to scented candles to candles shaped like fruit, vegetation or animals – all made with traditional methods and all unique. Sculptured and gold-painted candles are popular, as are those for religious events, such as baptisms. Certainly a souvenir unlike any other.
