This Just in: One of the City's Most Elevated Bakeries and Restaurants to Close, Citing Shifting Conditions Within the CBD Behind Its Closure
The owners have cited shifting conditions within the CBD as the reason behind the closure, while thanking its guests for their support over the years.
Antara at 128 Exhibition Street has announced it will close its doors after three years of trading. The all-day bakery, bar and restaurant will call last orders on May 30; however, the site won't remain quiet for long.
Antara has contributed to the evolving Melbourne hospitality scene since its opening, offering a tranquil and elegant space for everything from early-morning coffees and pastries to business lunches and celebratory dinners.

The owners have cited shifting conditions within the CBD as the reason behind the closure, while thanking its guests, collaborators and community for their support over the years. "This decision has been made with a clear view of the market and how Melbourne is evolving. We've taken the time to reflect on where the CBD is heading and how we can best respond to it," says owner Adi Halim.
The owners acknowledge that while the city continues to evolve, venues need to adapt to it. To that end, the owners have announced that a new concept for the 128 Exhibition Street site is already in the works, and the space will not remain quiet for long. The Windsor Group is already teasing a new offering slated to open in late 2026. Watch this space for further details to come.
