Coming Soon: RIP Lucky Coq, Hello Lucky's — This Loved Chapel Street Venue Is Relaunching For a New Generation of Night Owls

The end of Lucky Coq wasn't the end of the party, with a reimagined late-night hangout set to land in Windsor this spring.

After 20 years on Chapel Street, Lucky Coq called its last drinks back in May. But it was never pegged as goodbye forever. Now, the same operators, Morris Hospitality, are ready to reveal the venue's next chapter, with Lucky's set to launch on the same Windsor corner later this spring. However, don't expect a light refresh. This was always intended to be a full-scale reimagination.

Of course, there will be some similarities. Stiff drinks, loud music and late-night energy are making a welcome return. But the venue will adopt more of a restaurant vibe, at least at the start of the night, with dinner first, DJs later being the key takeaway. While the food program is still under wraps, think bold, shareable cuisine.

"Lucky's is about giving people more reasons to come in, and more reasons to stay. You might book a table for dinner, move into drinks and then realise a few hours later that the DJs have taken over and you're still here," says Morris Hospitality Head of Marketing and Sales Grace Dorman.

At its core, Lucky's will be about creating a space where you can spend the whole night instead of hopping from one bar to the next. And while the new fit-out and vibe will look to build upon the legacy of what came before, punters should know the mismatched couches and retro dive bar aesthetic probably won't be back.

"Melburnians know this corner and so many people have their own Lucky Coq story. It has been part of Chapel Street nightlife for almost 20 years, so we wanted to acknowledge that history without simply recreating it," says Dorman. "We want it to have the energy of a great night out, but also the familiarity and accessibility of a great local — somewhere you can come back to again and again."

With further details on Lucky's food, drinks, music program and the transformation of the venue revealed in the coming weeks, it won't be long until you can gather your old crew for another all-night session. Just don't expect to end the night with a $4 pizza that might have been the only thing keeping you standing in your student days.

Lucky's is expected to open in late spring at 179 Chapel Street, Windsor. Head to the website for more information.
