Beloved Melbourne coffee brand Market Lane adds to its stable of stores, opening its latest pint-sized cafe in the centre of buzzing Fitzroy North. It might be new, but the shop still manages to create a sense of familiarity and comfort, with a design that connects to the venue's history and brings it into the present. 

As one of Melbourne's premium coffee roasters, Market Lane has been providing the city with beans sourced in sustainable, respectful and responsible ways. Proudly B Corp-certified, the brand has established a strong rep for prioritising quality, transparency, community and environmentally sound practices. 

With stores already across the CBD, Carlton, Brunswick and South Yarra, the new Fitzroy North venue brings the coffee brand to a buzzing neighbourhood, joining local retailers and venues such as Piedimonte's supermarket, Public Wine Shop, Wild Things, Pizzeria Magma and Loafer Bread. 

Studio Goss, already intimately familiar with the brand having designed its Queen Street, Sydney Road and Prahran Market stores, was responsible for the fitout, which was guided by the building's original 1960s facade and referenced the wave of European migration that influenced the suburb in the post-war decades. Built-in bookshelves reference the site's more recent history as a local bookshop. 

A tight selection of pastries from Wild Life Bakery, cakes from Red Door Corner Store, and bikkies from Loafer Bread sit alongside a full range of filter and espresso bevs, available seven days a week from early morning until late afternoon — a welcome surprise for those who crave a coffee even as evening approaches.

Signature drinks include an Espresso Spritz, pour-over filter coffee hand-brewed to order, and Mork chocolate drinks. Once you've found your favourite brew, grab a bag of beans to take home, with Market Lane's full line-up of beans available for purchase, as well as a limited selection of brew gear and merchandise.
