Overview

Celebrate Indigenous stories at Blak & Bright, Victoria's first Indigenous literary festival. More than 50 Indigenous writers, storytellers and performers will participate in the fledgling festival, which will be held at the Wheeler Centre over four days from February 18-21. From poetry readings to workshops for young writers — if you're passionate about Indigenous culture, then this is the festival for you.

Standout events on the Blak & Bright program include a keynote presentation by author Bruce Pascoe and screenwriter Tony Briggs; one-on-one conversations with Indigenous elders Aunty Di Kerr, Uncle Larry Walsh and Aunty Kerry Reed-Gilbert; and a series of short play readings from the ILBIJERRI Theatre Company, the longest running Indigenous theatre company in Australia.

The festival will come to a close with The Bogong, featuring crafted spoken word pieces from prominent Indigenous storytellers, followed by the Blak & Bright artist's party.
