Overview

Yes, Melbourne's scored another rooftop cinema. But while the openair aspect might be new, this outdoor venture comes from a fixture of the city's film scene.

Elsternwick's Classic Cinema has been screening movies since 1911 — but this is the first time it's done it on its rooftop. Located on the fourth level, the rooftop not only has its own bar and tiered seating, but views across the southeast to the city.

The summer series will kick off on Thursday, December 19 with seven consecutive screenings of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and continue until April 2020 with a mix of new releases and cult classics. You'll be able to check out Taika Waititi's World War II satire JoJo Rabbit and the new weird rendition of Cats as well as harking back to 10 Things I Hate About You and Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing.

Movies start at sundown every night of the week and tickets are $25.
