Overview

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is already a rousing cinematic experience, whether seen in the theatre or at home on the couch. However, when backed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, this spine-tingling blockbuster reaches a whole new height. That's what awaits across three nights in 2027 — Thursday, September 17–Saturday, September 19 — as the MSO performs John Williams' magnificent score live against the backdrop of the film at The Plenary.

Having earned an Oscars nomination for the score, the spellbinding rises and falls of this classic soundtrack only make the magical journey of Harry Potter and his fans that much more exciting as they search to uncover the truth about Sirius Black.

Not the first time the MSO has delved into the world of Harry Potter — they're just about to finish bringing Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets' music to life — the concert series has proved a massive hit around the globe, with 4.5 million fans attending over 3000 performances. Now a quarter century since the release of the series' first film, the '25 Years of Magic' celebration is well underway, featuring theatrical re-releases and special experiences.

"As we celebrate 25 years since audiences first discovered Hogwarts on the big screen, there is no better way to honour that legacy than experiencing this music performed live by a symphony orchestra, all while the beloved film is simultaneously projected onto the big screen," says Justin Freer, President of CineConcerts and Producer/Conductor of the Harry Potter Film Concert Series.
